Holiday Hacks for Healthy Living

The hustle and bustle of the holiday is in full swing – parties, events, sugary treats, and delicious food! It’s easy to avoid unnecessary stress and maintain your healthy lifestyle with a few tried and true holiday hacks.

Mighty Minis. Don’t let your fun filled and busy schedule disrupt your exercise goals. Break up your long walks into mighty mini strolls throughout the day. Grab a few minutes in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Remember, a brisk walk of 10 minutes or more a few times a day will achieve your step goal and burn those holiday calories.

Crave Busters. Be prepared to battle your cravings for sweets (e.g. images of sugar plums danced in their heads – the struggle is real). Arm yourself by keeping a few of your favorite healthy snacks nearby like a low carb protein bar (around 15g carbs), peanut butter crackers, or an apple and two cubes of low fat cheese. Feel a craving headed your way? Reach for that healthy snack instead of the candy dish or cookie jar.

Pause for Your Cause. You no doubt feel energized, healthy, trim and downright proud when you reach and maintain your health goals. Take time to “pause for your cause.” Share the love and excitement of your latest achievements and new lifestyle with family and friends. Taking a pause for your cause not only keeps you inspired and accountable, when you celebrate your success and share with others, you motivate them to join in.

So, be sure to catch your daily dose of Z’s with 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night. Don’t be afraid to sneak in a quick nap!
